The Way (New Horizons)
Through every battle
Through every heartbreak
Through every circumstance
I believe that You are my fortress
Oh, You are my portion
And You are my hiding place, oh
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe
Through every blessing
Through every promise
Through every breath I take
I believe that You are Provider
Oh, You are Protector
You are the One I love, oh
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are
Oh, You are
Oh, You are
And it’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts, they can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when I’m here with You
It’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
All my fears and doubts
They can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are
The way, the truth, the life
I believe You are
It’s a new horizon and I’m set on You
And You meet me here today with mercies that are new
And all my fears and doubts, they can all come too
Because they can’t stay long when

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one come sto the Father but through Me.” John 14.6, NASB
Yesterday, we found ourselves in a cemetery asking Jesus to show up. It is fitting that today is the day of the crucifixion, where the cemetery is on the horizon. It was the reason that He came. He is the resurrection and the life and His death on Good Friday did not stop that!
But, the disciples are in the same place as Mary and Martha. The only difference is that Jesus is still there!
He is telling them where He is going. He is telling them that His time on earth has drawn to a close. He is telling them that there is only one more step to complete His purpose for being on earth. Nevertheless, they are focused on the here and now. You remember Thomas’ question, “Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we get there?”
The crisis of belief that Thomas’ question reveals is natural to all of us. It is the same as Mary and Martha. What we will do when Jesus isn’t there? What a question for Good Friday?
On the surface, it appears that the end of the Jesus movement is on the horizon as its Leader is on the Cross. What will His disciples do? What will we do?
Jesus told Martha that He is the life. Wait, what? His friend died and now He is about to die. That seems to be the opposite of life.
These statements matter in light of Good Friday because life goes beyond this physical existence. His death provided life for us for eternity. What we see as death here is the realization of the life He provides.
Thomas asked how we get there. We get there through Jesus. The way is the way of the cross. The way is dying to self in order to live in Him. Good Friday takes us down that path by way of example, but also by way of walking in faith.
What about you?
What way are you trying to follow? What life are you trying to live? Jesus isn’t just a way that fits into life. Jesus is the basis of life. If we are not taking time each day to learn the Way, we are leaving out the fullness of our life!
Pray: Jesus, You paid my debt and You offered me a new life. Show me today how I can walk in Your way and live in the truth that You alone are the Savior of the world. Thank you for loving me, Jesus!
